To what extent do foundations use consultants to support their work?  While we’ve known for years that foundations use consultants to support various aspects of their work, until now we’ve never had a quantitative picture of how many, how often, and for what purposes.

Join us for a presentation and conversation about the first-ever survey on philanthropy consulting by the Foundation Center, highlighting the responses of over 1,000 grantmakers throughout the United States. The survey found widespread use of consultants among foundations -- particularly for larger foundations (by total giving) and community foundations. After the survey findings and reactions from our panel members, we’ll discuss the use of consultants among foundations in the Chicago region and beyond.

Speakers will be Betsy Brill, Co-founder and President, Strategic Philanthropy, Ltd.; Tom Fuechtmann, Program Officer, Community Memorial Foundation; and Steven Lawrence, Director of Research, The Foundation Center.

The discussion will be moderated by Kris Putnam-Walkerly, Chair, National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers and President, Putnam Consulting Group.

This program is co-sponsored by the National Network of Consultants to Grantmakers.
