Family Foundations and the Law: Today and Tomorrow | DOWNLOAD A REGISTRATION FORM
Tuesday, September 23 | Union League of Chicago, 65 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago | 8:30 am - Noon (8 am breakfast)
Join us for a comprehensive review of what every family foundation manager and trustee needs to know about the daily operations, grantmaking practices, and evolving trends in the law affecting family foundations Topics will include legal basics, grantmaking and the law, and emerging trends. There will also be a "Stump the Panel" session: bring your hardest legal questions and see if the panel of experts can come up with an answer! During the networking break, met with your peers, Donors Forum staff, and Dori Kreiger, Managing Director of Family Philanthropy Services, Council on Foundations. Speakers will include Andrew C. Schultz, Deputy General Counsel, Council on Foundations and Janice Rodgers, Partner, Quarles & Brady LLP. Participants will also receive a copy of the recently updated book, Top 10 Ways Family Foundations Get Into Trouble. This event is co-sponsored by Donors Forum and the Council on Foundations.

2008 Summer Retreat Summary
The Family Foundations Committee reviewed its recent programs and planned sessions for the coming year including a program on legal issues featuring Council on Foundations and a program on transmitting mission and values to succeeding generations with a follow up workshop on creating legacy statements. The group also anticipates planning a program for Fall 2009 on how family foundations can use technology to stay connected and conduct business. Boyd McDowell, III continues as chair of the committee.

Stewardship Principles for Family Foundations (07/05)
The Council on Foundations launched an online database with a collection of interviews about best practices, sample documents and tools from family philanthropy leaders that correspond to the Stewardship Principles for Family Foundations.

Family Matters Now
The Council on Foundations launched this e-newsletter for family foundations with updates on trends in family philanthropy, special events, regional conferences and seminars.

Family Governance: A Primer for Families - Passages Issue Paper (11/04)
This article, written by Patricia Angus from Asset Management Advisors, focuses on the principles, practices and policies of family philanthropy governance.
