2007 Summer Retreat Summary
The group's first session of the year will be a look at why comprehensive immigration reform stalled on the federal level and what the next steps are, including a discussion of laws directed at immigrants that are being proposed by local governments. Other sessions will include an update on the Illinois "New Americans" executive order and a discussion of the overlap between immigration and poverty. The national Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees will be holding a convening in Chicago in June, and group members may be involved in planning that convening and tying their discussions into events planned for that meeting. Co-chairs: Lawrence Benito, Lawrence Hansen.
