Chicago Global
Donors Network Moves Towards Independence
Relocation is latest step towards autonomy, growth
March 21, 2008 (Chicago) - Chicago
Global Donors Network (CGDN), a sponsored project of
Donors Forum that promotes, encourages and supports
Chicago-based donors in global giving, has relocated
to its own offices and applied for independent nonprofit
status.
CGDN was formed in 2003 by Marjorie
Benton and Adele Simmons, two internationally-renowned
philanthropists from Chicago with extensive experience
leading charitable institutions. Through educational
programming, networking opportunities and donor giving
circles, CGDN has become one of only a small handful
of U.S.. organizations facilitating international philanthropy
among private donors.
Since its formation, CGDN had been
located in downtown Chicago in the offices of its fiscal
sponsor, Donors Forum, a statewide organization that
promotes philanthropy and a strong nonprofit sector
in Illinois. "As Donors Forum has a strong and
historic standing in Chicago, it was a natural platform
from which to build a network of individual donors,
foundation, and financial advisors interested in and
dedicated to international giving," said Tracy
Poe, CGDN Steering Committee Chair. Donors Forum will
continue to act as the fiscal sponsor while CGDN is
in the process of obtaining its own tax-exempt status.
"CGDN needed a place to be nurtured
as it shaped its vision and future, and Donors Forum
was pleased to provide that support," said Donors
Forum President and CEO Valerie S. Lies. "Based
on the quality of the programs it is presenting as well
as the constituency it's developed, CGDN was definitely
prepared to take this next step forward."
"We are very grateful to
Donors Forum for providing us with support - both monetary
and moral - since our inception," said Poe. "Even
though we have 'left the nest,'" she continued,
"Donors Forum will always be a friend."
CGDN's new offices are located at 28
E. Jackson Street, Suite 901, Chicago, Illinois 60604,
effective March 11, 2008.
CGDN is planning an open house in May.
