Individual Charitable Giving in Illinois Estimated to Exceed $10 Billion in 2007

December 18, 2007 - If the growth of individual philanthropic giving in Illinois continues as it has from 2000 to 2006, it is estimated that total individual contributions will exceed $10 billion in 2007, according to a new update released by Donors Forum. Giving in Illinois: An Update to the 2006 Reports, offers a snapshot of individual and foundation philanthropy in 2005, the most current data available.

The update highlights growth in Illinois philanthropic giving over a multi-year period. This information was not contained in two reports Donors Forum published in 2006, Individual Giving in Illinois and Foundation Giving in Illinois.

“Overall, the good news is that over this period of time, philanthropic giving has continued to grow in Illinois,” said Moss Cail, Donors Forum Director of Research. “Despite the stock market’s ups and downs and the financial upheaval caused by the September 11 terrorist attacks, Illinois residents have continued to recognize the importance of charitable giving.”

Editor’s Note: Representatives from the Donors Forum are available to speak about the update’s findings. We can also refer reporters to foundations and nonprofits in the metropolitan area who can share their organization’s current outlook as a result of recent events. To arrange an interview, please email Marilou Jones or call her at 312-327-8942.
