Donors Forum and College of Lake
County partner to offer fundraising and management resources
January 6, 2006
- Hundreds of nonprofit organizations in Lake County will
soon have access to essential fundraising and management
resources at the Lake County Philanthropy Center, created
by a partnership of the Donors Forum of Chicago and the
College of Lake County.
The Lake County Philanthropy Center will
offer proposal writing guides and grantmaker directories
to assist in fundraising efforts, as well as books and
periodicals on nonprofit management topics. Helpful librarians
will be available to assist patrons with their research.
Free training programs will be offered periodically in
the center by the Donors Forum to help nonprofit staff
and volunteers learn how to use the resources to pursue
grant opportunities.
The grand opening of the Lake County
Philanthropy Center will be held Thursday, January 12,
from 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m. at the college's John C. Murphy
Memorial Library, 19351 West Washington Street, in Grayslake.
The program, which is open to the public, includes a brief
introduction to the resources at the Philanthropy Center
and remarks by Bob Reusché, senior advisor to The
Chicago Community Trust and The Lake County Community
Foundation; Valerie Lies, president and CEO of the Donors
Forum; and Dr. Russell O. Peterson, interim president
of the College of Lake County.
"The Lake County Philanthropy Center
will provide a wealth of information to help suburban
nonprofits run their organizations and improve their effectiveness,"
said Claudette Baker, vice president of library and nonprofit
services at the Donors Forum. "Access to current
research materials and guidance from librarians trained
in philanthropic research are invaluable resources."
The center will be open to the public
during regular library hours, including evenings and weekends.
"The Philanthropy Center will enrich
the College of Lake County and help us better serve the
local nonprofit community," said Connie Bakker, dean
of the Learning Resource Center at the College of Lake
County.
The Lake County Philanthropy Center is
the fourth such center opened by the Donors Forum in the
Chicago suburbs. Other Philanthropy Centers operate at
the College of DuPage, Schaumburg Township District Library
and Prairie State College. The Philanthropy Centers bring
vital resources, previously only available at the Donors
Forum Library in downtown Chicago, to more convenient
locations for suburban nonprofits.
The Lake County Philanthropy Center is
generously supported by The Chicago Community Trust. For
