Donors Forum teams up with
sector leaders and state regulators to offer an educational
event for area nonprofits.
January 24, 2007
- (EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.) In a move to strengthen the nonprofit
sector throughout Illinois, Donors Forum of Chicago
(Donors Forum) is cohosting an upcoming
outreach event conducted by the Illinois Attorney
General's Charitable Advisory Council (CAC) with
partners in the Metro East area. At the February
2 meeting, speakers from the Attorney General's
office will address regulatory issues affecting Illinois
charitable organizations. Donors Forum and CAC representatives
will also share information regarding resources, such
as the
Illinois Nonprofit Principles and Best Practices,
that support and strengthen the Illinois nonprofit sector.
"The idea behind a meeting
like this is to provide nonprofit leaders with access
to information about charitable sector regulatory issues,"
said Valerie S. Lies, president and CEO of Donors Forum.
"Not only will the meeting provide the information
nonprofits need about these issues, but it will give
nonprofit leaders and board members the opportunity
to ask questions." Donors Forum has sponsored three
similar events across the state.
For local partners, the event
is an opportunity to cohost a gathering of regulators
and representatives from nonprofits and foundations.
It is a great opportunity to sit at the same table and
discuss best practices. Meetings like this, CAC leaders
believe, will help organizations get good practices
in place.
"I hope the event will enhance
the capability and accountability of the nonprofit sector
in this region by providing an opportunity for nonprofits
to learn about important governance and legal issues
affecting them," said Peter Ruger, member of the
CAC and attorney at Tueth Keeney Cooper Mohan &
Jackstadt.
"As a management support organization
offering programs and services in the Metro East area
for over three years, Nonprofit Services Consortium
(NSC) is happy to partner with the Donors Forum to offer
additional resources and information to advance leadership
and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Illinois,"
said Deborah L. Cooper, NSC president.
The February 2 event will
be held from 9 a.m.-noon at the Morris University
Center on the campus of Southern Illinois University
in Edwardsville. For more information, contact the
