Instituting a board
When seeking grants, the more established and active your organization is, the better. Having a mission statement and instituting a board of directors are very important steps towards this end.

Board members are valuable for several reasons:
  • they contribute to your organization financially
  • they provide valuable connections to other potential funders
  • they offer advice on managing and running your organization
  • they help organize events and plan fundraising
  • they shape the organization's mission and purpose
Potential board members are people who are interested in your organization's cause and programming, and who have the necessary life and professional experience to provide the valuable resources and advice you will need.

For more information, visit Board Source, a nationally recognized organization in the field of board development. You can also review and use their materials in the Donors Forum Library.
