National Association of State Charity Officials
Includes listing of officials in each state, current issues and regulations, some IRS details and Frequently Asked Questions about laws and regulations governing nonprofit organizations.

Foundation Center FAQs
The Foundation Center's Frequently Asked Questions section includes a section, "Nonprofit Organizations," that addresses the basics of establishing a nonprofit.

An excellent sample document for would-be nonprofits.

Information for Tax-Exempt Organizations
An Internal Revenue Service site outlining types of tax-exempt organizations, the application process, special rules and procedures, FAQs on tax-exemption and more. Can also use this site to search the online version of IRS Publication #78: Cumulative List of Organizations, which will indicate if an organization is tax-exempt, and how much of a contribution is tax deductible.

Internet Nonprofit Center: Start-up FAQs
An excellent site for basic questions on starting a nonprofit. Maintained by the staff of the Evergreen State Society in Seattle, WA.

BoardSource
Offers much advice on nonprofit organization management and nonprofit boards. See "What You Should Know About Nonprofits" for starters.

Nonprofit Resource Center
Defines types of tax-exempt entities. The "Internet Resources for Nonprofit Corporations" section offers information on laws regulating nonprofits, legal resources and services, etc.
