There are also other ways grantmakers offer support to organizations. As you plan your programs and perform your research, you may identify some of these:

In-Kind Gifts
In-kind gifts are a donation of goods or services rather than cash or appreciated property. Corporations and foundations may donate computers, office furniture, technical assistance, etc. These products and services are a great way to provide other streams of income and to build relationships with funders. Listed below are some helpful web sites on locating and securing in-kind gifts.

Gifts in Kind International
Gifts in Kind provides nonprofit organizations access to donated products and special pricing programs. There are some fees involved with receiving donations and services. This organization also accepts donations.

National Association for the Exchange of Industrial Resources
NAEIR offers access to donated materials to organizations that provide care for the ill, needy or minors. The products may be used to further an organization's mission and in its everyday operations. NAEIR accepts donations.

Share the Technology
Share the Technology is a clearing house for donated computers and printers. Donors and potential recipients can connect through the web site no matter where they are in the country.

Illinois Funding Source
Search Illinois Funding Source, the Donors Forum's online foundation database, to find out which grantmakers donate items or services. Search IFS at Donors Forum Library or at one of our three philanthropy centers. Or subscribe to IFS and search from the comfort of your home or office.

To search IFS for in-kind donations, choose one of these options under "Type of Support": Computer System, Software, Equipment; Equipment, Furnishing, Materials; Other Type of Support; and Technical Assistance.

Search the Donors Forum Library Catalog for books on in-kind gifts. Suggested search terms include in-kind gifts and technical assistance.

Seed money
Seed money is defined as a grant or contribution used to start a new project or organization.

Illinois Funding Source
Search Illinois Funding Source, the Donors Forum's online foundation database, to find out which grantmakers offer seed money. Search IFS at Donors Forum Library or at one of our three philanthropy centers. Or subscribe to IFS and search from the comfort of your home or office.

To search IFS for seed money, choose the keywords "Seed Money, Start Up Funds" under "Area of Interest".

Technical Assistance
Some funders offer operational or management assistance with fundraising, budgeting, financial planning, program planning, legal advice, marketing, etc.

Equipment
Some grantmakers by offer equipment, such as technology, to grantees.
