Eleven percent of Illinois residents report having a disability. As we commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, how can local nonprofit organizations take the lead in becoming more inclusive? All nonprofits touch people with disabilities -- people with disabilities are your employees, your stakeholders, your vendors, and your audience members. Come to this free learning session with Irene Bowen, author of the updated “Renewing the Commitment: An ADA Compliance Guide for Nonprofits,” published by the Chicago Community Trust, to learn about opportunities to be more inclusive in all your activities.
Irene Bowen has dedicated her career to fulfilling the promises of the ADA. Irene has served on the Federal Access Board, established the Department of Justice’s first disability rights unit and certification program, and served as a key member of the task force for the 1991 ADA regulations. Currently, she is the President of ADA One, LLC.
Who should attend: Executive directors, human resources executives and administrators, front line, and other staff and board members who want to help their nonprofit better serve the diverse people of the Chicago region.
